Description

A savory twist on a classic, Italian Garlic Bread Sloppy Joes combine tender, seasoned ground beef with a rich, tangy sauce, all nestled between crispy, buttery garlic bread. It’s a mouthwatering fusion of Italian and comfort food, perfect for any craving!

Ingredients

Scale

1 pound ground beef

1 medium onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup marinara sauce

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1⁄2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

1⁄4 teaspoon black pepper

1⁄2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon olive oil

4 sandwich rolls

4 tablespoons butter, softened

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

1⁄4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1⁄4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.

2. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is browned and fully cooked, about 7-10 minutes.

3. Once the beef is browned, drain any excess fat from the skillet and return the beef to the pan.

4. Add the diced onion to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 3-4 minutes, until the onion softens and becomes translucent.

5. Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional 1 minute, stirring frequently, until the garlic is fragrant.

6. Stir in the marinara sauce and tomato paste, making sure everything is well combined.

7. Season the mixture with oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, black pepper, and salt.

8. Stir everything together and let it simmer over low heat for about 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

9. While the beef mixture is simmering, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

10. Slice the sandwich rolls in half, being careful not to cut all the way through, so they stay connected on one side.

11. Place the rolls, cut side up, on a baking sheet.

12. Spread 1 tablespoon of softened butter on each cut side of the sandwich rolls.

13. Place the rolls in the preheated oven and bake for about 5-7 minutes, or until the bread is golden and crispy.

14. Once the rolls are toasted, remove them from the oven and set them aside.

15. Add the fresh chopped parsley and grated Parmesan cheese to the beef mixture and stir to combine.

16. Taste the beef mixture and adjust the seasoning if needed.

17. Spoon the beef mixture evenly onto the bottom half of each toasted roll.

18. Sprinkle the garlic powder evenly over the top of each sandwich.

19. Place the top half of the roll on each sandwich and press gently to hold everything together.

20. Serve the Italian Garlic Bread Sloppy Joes immediately and enjoy!

Notes

To make the beef mixture extra flavorful, allow it to simmer a little longer than 7 minutes, if needed, for a richer taste.

For a spicier kick, you can increase the red pepper flakes or add a dash of hot sauce to the beef mixture.

If you prefer a lighter option, swap the ground beef for ground turkey or chicken for a leaner alternative.

Use freshly baked rolls for the best texture and taste when toasting in the oven.

For extra richness, try adding a layer of provolone or mozzarella cheese on top of the beef mixture before closing the sandwich.
